Join us for Trustbelt Symposium 2013

The Cleveland and Pittsburgh alumni of Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) join to present: Trustbelt Symposia, discussions to promote regional collaboration.  

Regional collaboration includes a wide variety of activities from shared emergency services to common information technology infrastructure and support for economic development initiatives. The possibilities are limited only by our imagination and willingness to work together.

Trustbelt Symposium 2013 will feature a discussion between Ed FitzGerald and Rich Fitzgerald and be held February 20, 2013 in Cleveland at CWRU, moderated by Plain Dealer associate editor Joe Frolik. 

The event will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20 with a brief reception ahead of our symposium, which will begin at 6:45 p.m. The cost of the event includes hors d'ouevres at the reception and admittance to the symposium.

About the Speakers:
Ed FitzGerald is Cuyahoga County’s first County Executive. A graduate of The Ohio State University and Cleveland Marshall Law School, Ed has been a US House of Representatives staff member, community volunteer, FBI Special Agent recognized for investigating organized crime and political corruption, Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor, City Councilman, and Mayor of Lakewood, Ohio. In his first two years as county Executive, he has restored public confidence in county government by rooting out remaining vestiges of corruption, consolidating free-standing power silos, reducing the workforce by 10 percent, and convincing 58 of the 59 independent municipalities not to poach as pre-requisite to participate in a $100 million economic development fund.  Ed lives in Lakewood, Ohio with his wife Shannon and their four children.

Rich Fitzgerald is Allegheny County’s third County Executive.  A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, Rich ran a successful small business, worked on the 1999 campaign to reform county government, represented District 11 on the newly-formed County Council, and served as council President from 2004 to 2011. In addition to protecting taxpayers by making county government more accountable, efficient and effective, County Executive Fitzgerald has focused on job creation and economic development, personally visiting county companies to discuss what support they need to thrive; growing the number of direct flights from Pittsburgh International Airport; and making public transit reliable and sustainable.   Rich lives in Squirrel Hill, Pennsylvania with his wife, Cathy; they are the parents of eight children.

What should I wear?
Attire for the event is businesscasual.

Where should I park?
Guests are responsible for their own parking. Several lots located on the CWRU campus will be available that evening, including the parking garage located below the Thwing Center, which is accessible off of East Boulevard.  A map of campus parking locations is available here.

Is my registration transferrable?
Registrations are not transferrable to another individual. Nametags will be available upon check-in for easy mingling with your former classmates.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Yes, please print and bring your ticket(s) with you to the cafe. Guests can also download the Eventbrite app for iPhone or Android devices to display the ticket barcode on their phone.

What is the refund policy?
Requests for refunds should be directed to Brian Browne at brian.browne@case.edu. Requests will not be honored after Monday, February 18.

What if the event is sold out?
Due to the maximum capacity of our venue, we can only accommodate 300 guests. If the event is sold out, please join the waiting list in the case that any tickets become available. Those individuals will be contacted and have four hours to purchase tickets before moving onto the next individual.
